3 Chickens, 6 Meals

Whole chickens are cheap as chips, I can buy a large one in my location for £3.50.

Our family eat half a large chicken at a time, it’s the portion size that works for us.

I usually buy 3 whole chickens every other week. They take 1 hour and 40 minutes to cook each time and previously a whole chicken would be reserved for a Sunday when a meal takes a few hours to cook and that’s ok because there is time.

We love rotisserie chickens because they are so full of flavour. These bags from Bacofoil at £1.90 are great for locking in the moisture and for also keeping your oven clean.

I generally put the 3 chickens in the oven at once. It saves so much time.

Once cooked, I strip the chicken from the bones and split in half, one breast in each portion plus leg and other meat.

Separate the 3 chickens as described above into 6 freezer safe containers of bags & freeze for a very quick, clean, cheap & healthy meal component.

Some ideas of how you can use the chicken portions:

  • Mix with a sauce & rice for a meal in under 10 minutes.

  • Make a quick roast dinner using the make ahead roast potatoes recipe.

  • Chicken stir fry

  • Chicken enchiladas

  • Chicken soup

All for £1.94 per half chicken (including rotisserie style bags).
